Noah Williams erupted for a career-high 32 points Thursday night as Washington State completed a season sweep of California with an 82-51 Pac-12 Conference blowout in Pullman, Wash.
Williams nearly finished with a triple-double, collecting nine rebounds and seven assists as the Cougars improved to 13-10 overall and 6-10 in the conference. Andrej Jakimovski also came close to a triple-double with 11 points, eight assists and seven boards.
DJ Rodman also scored 11 points for Washington State, which connected on 51.7 percent of its field goal attempts, drawing 22 assists on 30 made baskets. The Cougars canned 12 of 23 3-pointers and buried the Golden Bears on the glass 39-26.
Matt Bradley scored 16 points for Cal (8-16, 3-14) but played only 23 minutes, missing chunks of time when he got into foul trouble trying to slow Williams down. Andre Kelly added 10, but it wasn't nearly enough to help the Golden Bears compete.
California again experienced trouble making shots, hitting just 36 percent from the field, and coughed up 19 points off just 11 turnovers.
Jakimovski and Williams teamed up for eight straight points before the midway point of the first half to give Washington State the lead for good. It simply snowballed from there as Williams was able to score seemingly any time he wanted.
There was just enough help for Williams. Jakimovski's 3-pointer made it 25-13 with 8:20 left in the half, and the lead stayed in double figures for the game's remainder.
The Cougars put this one away by scoring the last 10 points of the first half, seven of them from Williams. His two free throws with three seconds remaining capped a 24-point half and sent Washington State to intermission ahead 48-26.
It got no better for the Golden Bears after that. Williams' driving layup with 7:41 left in the game upped the margin to 73-40. Substitutes flooded the floor after that.
Washington State's leading scorer, Isaac Bonton, sat out his second straight game with injuries to both ankles.
