Sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis posted his 12th career double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds, lifting Indiana to an 89-59 win over Tennessee Tech at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
Junior point guard Rob Phinisee added 12 points for the Hoosiers (1-0), while freshman swingman Trey Galloway had 13 points in his Indiana debut.
The 6-foot-9, 245-pound Jackson-Davis, a preseason, first-team, All-Big Ten forward, displayed his versatility and athleticism all night with finishes inside and shots out to 18 feet. He could have declared for the NBA draft after his freshman season, but opted to return as one of four returning starters from an IU team that finished 20-12 last season.
Indiana is 11-1 in games in which Jackson-Davis posts a double-double.
Sophomore guard Keishawn Davidson led Tennessee Tech (0-1) with 17 points. Forward Kenneth White Jr. added 13 points for the Golden Eagles, while forward Austin Harvell had 10 points off the bench.
The Hoosiers closed the half with a 28-2 run to take a 48-19 halftime lead. IU's defense limited Tennessee Tech to 26.7 percent from the field in the first half, while forcing 13 Tennessee Tech turnovers.
Jackson-Davis scored eight points during a 20-0 IU run, which was capped by a Phinisee 3-pointer that put Indiana up 40-17. Indiana played all 10 of its available scholarship players in the first half, with eight of the 10 players scoring at least one basket. Indiana finished the game with 29 bench points.
Indiana played without starting center Joey Brunk, who was held out of the game for precautionary reasons due to back soreness. Tennessee Tech coach John Pelphrey did not make the trip after testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday. Assistant coach Marcus King took over head coaching duties for the game for the Golden Eagles.
Indiana finished the game scoring 31 points off 20 Tennessee Tech turnovers.
