Jalen Ray and Desure Buie combined for 56 points, and Hofstra stunned UCLA 88-78 on Thursday at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.
The Pride (3-2) went on a 21-9 run to take a 10-point lead with fewer than three minutes remaining. Tareq Coburn knocked down one of 12 Hofstra 3-pointers from the corner, then added another, and Buie made all three free throws after he was fouled on an attempt from behind the arc.
Buie hit a pair of 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 29 points. Ray sank five from long range en route to a career-high 27 points. Hofstra's Eli Pemberton, who scored 15 points, knocked down three from deep.
Coburn, who finished with 10 points, made two 3-pointers.
As a team, Hofstra sank 12 of its 24 tries from behind the 3-point arc. The Pride wound up posting their first win over a team from a Power 5 conference since a defeating Florida State on Nov. 20, 2015. Hofstra was 0-4 against Pac-12 teams, including 0-2 against UCLA before Thursday.
Hofstra's double-digit-point lead marked a 23-point swing. UCLA jumped ahead 32-19 with eight minutes to go in the first half, but the combination of Buie and Ray helped chip away at the deficit.
The Bruins (4-1) held a one-point lead at halftime. UCLA led by as many as seven points in the second half before Hofstra's decisive push.
UCLA took its final lead of the night, 63-61, on a Prince Ali lay-in off a Cody Riley assist with 9:14 to go. Less than a minute later, Riley, who had 12 points and six rebounds, fouled out on a personal and technical, called back-to-back.
Riley's disqualification negated some of UCLA's size advantage, which contributed to Hofstra's 36-27 rebounding advantage. Jalen Hill led the Bruins with 12 rebounds, and he shot 10 of 14 from the floor en route to 24 points.
The Bruins, who also got 12 points from Chris Smith, shot just 6 of 22 from behind the 3-point arc.
