Omar Yurtseven collected a season-high 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Georgetown never trailed while coasting to an 81-55 rout of Maryland-Baltimore County on Tuesday night in Washington.
The Hoyas (8-3) won their fourth straight game since James Akinjo and Josh LeBlanc were dismissed from the team on Dec. 3. They followed up a 10-point home win over Syracuse on Saturday by leading by as many as 32 points against UMBC (6-7).
Yurtseven posted his fifth double-double this season and 12th of his three-year career at Georgetown. He reached 20 points for the third time this season and ninth time in his career. He shot 11 of 14 and helped the Hoyas to a 44-24 edge on points in the paint.
Jahvon Blair added 15 and seven rebounds while Jamorko Pickett contributed 12 points for the Hoyas, who shot 49.3 percent from the floor. The Hoyas posted their most lopsided win of the season despite a quiet night from Mac McClung, who was held to eight points on 4-of-12 shooting.
L.J. Owens scored 16 points for UMBC, which lost for the seventh time in nine games. K.J. Jackson added 10 points for the, who Retrievers shot 35 percent overall, missed 19 of 25 3-point attempts and committed 14 turnovers that led to 22 points.
Owens and Jackson were a combined 10 of 20 from the floor but the rest of UMBC's roster shot a combined 27.5 percent (11 of 40).
UMBC missed its first eight shots and committed four turnovers as Georgetown scored the first 14 points.
The Retrievers finally scored when Jackson hit a 3-pointer with 13 minutes left in the half. The visitors were within 18-9 after a layup by Owens with 10:41 to go before the break, but Georgetown ripped off an 10-0 run to take a 28-9 lead on two free throws by Pickett nearly three minutes later.
The Hoyas held a 42-24 edge at halftime.
Georgetown started the second half with a 17-6 run, pushing the advantage to 59-30 on a jumper by Yurtseven with 12:52 remaining.
