Guard Antonio Blakeney scored 31 points and guard Keith Hornsby had 25 to lead LSU to a 88-77 victory over Mississippi State in a Southeastern Conference game on Saturday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.
Star freshman forward Ben Simmons had 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocked shots for the Tigers (15-8, 8-2 SEC), who remained atop the conference standings.
Blakeney made 11 of 17 shots from the field and added seven rebounds. Hornsby sank 5 of 10 3-point shots and had five assists.
Mississippi State (9-13, 2-8) led for most of the first half before Blakeney and Hornsby combined for nine points in the final 2:50 to give LSU a 43-35 halftime lead.
Five players scored in double figures for Mississippi State. Forward Gavin Ware had 14 points, guards Craig Sword, Quinndary Weatherspoon and Malik Newman had 12 each and guard Fred Thomas added 10.
LSU shot 52.5 percent from the field (32 of 61) and made 10 of 22 3-pointers (45.5 percent). Mississippi State finished 29 of 66 from the floor for 43.9 percent and hit just 7 of 23 from 3-point range for 30.4 percent.
