East Carolina guard B.J. Tyson scored 21 points, leading the Pirates to a 71-60 win over North Carolina A&T on Sunday at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, N.C.
North Carolina A&T led 18-11 with seven minutes play in the first half before East Carolina rallied. The Pirates went on an 18-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Tyson. East Carolina led 29-26 at halftime.
Forward Bruce Beckford scored 22 points to lead the Aggies (4-8), who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Guard Ahmad Abdullah added eight points for North Carolina A&T.
The game was still tight midway through the second half, with a Beckford 3-pointer cutting East Carolina's lead to 44-40 with 12 minutes to play. But the Pirates ran off the next eight points and answered every North Carolina A&T challenge down the stretch.
East Carolina guard Kentrell Barkley came off the bench to add 11 points, including a three-point play with four minutes to play that put the Pirates up 63-52. Guard Charles Foster chipped in 13 points off the bench for the Pirates (6-4), who improved to 5-0 at home.
