Carlos Lopez tied a career high with 14 points to lead No. 20 UNLV to a 80-63 victory over visiting New Mexico on Saturday.
Depth and speed won it for UNLV (18-3, 2-1 Mountain West). The Runnin’ Rebels outscored the Lobos 26-0 on fast-break points, and had a 28-9 advantage in points off the bench.
UNLV made 51.7 percent of its shots (30 of 58) and improved to 12-0 at home this season.
Mike Moser scored 14 points and led UNLV with 10 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Anthony Marshall had the line of the night with 13 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals, while Chace Stanback added 13 points.
UNLV, leading by four at intermission, went on a 12-5 run to start the second half to take a 51-40 lead. After that UNLV surge, New Mexico got no closer than eight points.
The Runnin’ Rebels held the Lobos to 38.6 percent shooting (22 of 57). It was the 10th time in its last 11 games UNLV has held an opponent to less than 40 percent.
The Runnin’ Rebels forced 21 turnovers by a New Mexico squad that struggled to find its rhythm. UNLV outscored New Mexico 32-14 off turnovers.
Kendall Williams and Tony Snell scored 15 points apiece for New Mexico (15-4, 1-2).
