Freshman Chane Benahan debuted with a double-double as No. 8 Louisville opened its season with a comfortable 83-48 victory over Tennessee-Martin.
The Cardinals put it away early, scoring 14 unanswered points to seize a 20-5 advantage with 14:10 left in the first half. Chris Smith and Peyton Siva hit back-to-back 3-pointers to key the surge for Louisville, which went into halftime with a 47-23 cushion.
Benahan, who made all six of his field-goal attempts, finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Louisville shot 54 percent (31-of-57) and scored 26 points on 21 Tennessee-Martin turnovers.
Mike Liabo scored a game-high 15 points for the Skyhawks (0-1).
Kyle Kuric chipped 14 points for the Cardinals, while Peyton Siva added 10 points and nine assists.
