No. 16 Kentucky smothered No. 12 Florida 70-54 Sunday in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, claiming the program’s second straight SEC tournament title and 27th overall.
In the rubber match between the SEC East’s top two squads, the Wildcats frustrated Florida’s starting backcourt into 7-of-26 shooting and dominated the paint. Kentucky outscored Florida 24-3 at the foul line.
Brandon Knight scored 17 points, Terrence Jones 16 and Darius Miller 15 for the Wildcats (25-8), who have won six straight.
Florida (26-7) lost for just the second time in 12 games. Kenny Boyton (10 points) was the only Gator to hit double figures as Florida shot 39 percent. SEC Player of the Year Chandler Parsons had nine points and 10 rebounds, but shot just 4 of 12.
Playing before a throng of Wildcats fans, Kentucky led 34-29 at the break, then opened the second half on an 11-4 run. Florida never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
