Reserve guard Devin Harris buried a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 1:26 to go in overtime, and Trey Burke scored a team-high 24 points to lead the visiting Dallas Mavericks past the Memphis Grizzlies, 129-127, on Sunday night.
While it was Harris who hit the eventual game-winning shot -- in a game Dallas trailed by 15 points with 5:09 to go in the third quarter -- little-used Mavs backup center Salah Mejri was as responsible as anyone for securing the victory.
Mejri slammed home key dunks in the latter part of the fourth quarter, tipped home the tying bucket with 1.5 seconds in regulation and then opened overtime with seven consecutive points, including a 3-pointer with 3:39 to go for a 119-112 lead.
Mejri finished with 19 points off the bench on 7-of-12 shooting to go with nine rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots in 32 minutes. The Mavs, playing without star rookie Luka Doncic due to nagging injuries, got a measure of revenge for Friday's home loss to the Grizzlies that saw Delon Wright post a triple-double.
Starting for injured point guard Mike Conley, Wright did it again, posting 20 points, 12 assists and 13 rebounds. Justin Holiday scored a game-high 30 points, drilling six of his 11 3-point attempts. All five Memphis starters scored in double figures, along with reserves Tyler Zeller scoring 15 points, and Chandler Parsons and Jevon Carter each scoring 10 points.
Tyler Dorsey's 3-pointer tied it at 121-121 with 1:39 to go in overtime. Harris then buried his own 3-pointer, and Burke followed with a driving layup for a 126-121 lead with a minute to go.
In likely his final game at Memphis, Mavs forward Dirk Nowitzki finished with just two points on 1-of-5 shooting with five rebounds in 12 minutes. Dorian Finney-Smith finished with 16 points but missed eight of his nine 3-point attempts. Justin Jackson also had 16 points for Dallas.
Dwight Powell added 15 points, and Daryl Macon had 12 points.
