Donovan Mitchell scored 23 points to lead six Utah players in double figures, and the Jazz defeated the Dallas Mavericks 117-102 on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.
The Mavericks, who were playing the second of back-to-back games, failed to build on a resounding defeat of the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, a game that ended Dallas' six-game losing streak.
The Jazz finally managed to record their first home win in five tries. They wore their retro jerseys as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the franchise.
Alec Burks scored 18 points for Utah, and Rudy Gobert had his 10th double-double in 11 games, contributing 17 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 7-for-9 from the floor before fouling out with three minutes left. Jae Crowder scored 14 points, Derrick Favors had 13 points, and Ricky Rubio finished with 10 points and 12 assists.
Mitchell, who missed two of the previous three games because of separate ankle and hamstring injuries, had five rebounds and seven assists. He also produced a highlight-reel dunk over two Mavericks to close out the first half.
The Jazz shot 48.3 percent from the field, including 35.3 percent from 3-point range.
Rookie Luka Doncic was Dallas' top scorer, as he poured in 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting. He also grabbed six rebounds. DeAndre Jordan added 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Mavs shot 39.7 percent from the field, including 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Utah jumped out to an 18-8 lead five minutes into the game and led 30-18 after the first quarter, winning the early turnover battle 7-1. These advantages were signs of things to come.
The home side continued to stretch the lead to 68-45 at halftime.
The third quarter was highlighted by lots of free throws, and the Mavs cut the deficit to 99-83.
Dallas drew within nine points early in the final frame, but the Jazz responded with a run of their own to seal the victory.
Up next, the Mavericks head home to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. The Jazz welcome the Boston Celtics on Friday night.
