KINGS 110, MAVERICKS 97: Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton each scored 17 as host Sacramento cruised past a gassed Dallas, ending a 10-game losing streak to the Mavericks.
What a difference between this game and the first meeting, when Dallas shellacked the Kings 99-60. Dallas hadn’t lost in this series since a 102-95 defeat Nov. 11, 2009.
The Mavericks have dropped six consecutive road games for the first time since Nov. 7-30, 1999, and will try to end the streak Saturday at Golden State, their third game in as many nights.
DeMarcus Cousins scored 15 for the Kings (14-26), Isaiah Thomas had 14 and Donte Greene 11. Francisco Garcia and John Salmons each scored 10.
Sixth man Jason Terry led the Mavericks (23-19) with 23 points. Shawn Marion had 14 points and eight rebounds. Dirk Nowitzki had 13 points and nine rebounds and Ian Mahinmi added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Dallas was in trouble early. The Kings shot 52.2 percent in the first quarter to 33.3 for the Mavericks and led by as many as 13.
Turnovers were a problem in the first half for the Mavericks, who had eight that the Kings turned into 13 points. The Mavericks shot just 37 percent (17 of 46) in the first half.
The Kings shot 11 of 18 (61 percent) in the third quarter and all five starters had reached double figures. Cousins’ jumper with 2:32 remaining gave the Kings an 82-63 lead and they maintained it throughout the fourth quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mavericks were without center Brendan Haywood (sprained ankle) for the third consecutive game and forward Brandan Wright (concussion) did not make the trip. … Saturday's game marks Terry’s 1,000th in the NBA. … The Mavericks were to fly from Sacramento to San Francisco, just 90 miles away … Sacramento scored just 60 points in the first meeting and surpassed that with 9:44 remaining in the third quarter.
