Kevin Martin scored 33 points and Chuck Hayes scored the go-ahead points as the Houston Rockets recorded a 91-89 victory over the host New Orleans Hornets on Sunday.
Hayes’ basket and free throw broke an 85-85 tie with 2:08 remaining as Houston (30-31) won its fourth straight game.
David West had 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists for New Orleans (35-26).
Houston trailed by 10 points early in the fourth quarter before erupting for a 14-2 run to take an 80-78 lead on Brad Miller’s 19-footer with 6:58 left. The Rockets made four 3-pointers during the spurt, with Martin hitting a pair.
Kyle Lowry added 18 points and Hayes grabbed 11 rebounds for the Rockets. Lowry and Martin each made four 3-pointers and Martin hit all 13 of his free-throw attempts.
Marco Belinelli scored 14 points and Trevor Ariza and Carl Landry tallied 13 points apiece for the Hornets. Chris Paul had 12 assists and Emeka Okafor grabbed 14 rebounds.
Belinelli scored eight points during an 18-0 second-quarter run in which New Orleans turned a two-point deficit into a 49-33 lead. The Hornets led 55-40 at halftime.
