Eddie House hit two free throws with 6.5 seconds left to lift the shorthanded Miami Heat to an 88-87 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday.
LeBron James collected 39 points, nine assists and eight rebounds while Mike Miller added 12 points and 10 boards for the Heat, who were playing without Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
Miami trailed 71-64 after Austin Daye opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer for the Pistons. Detroit still led by as much as 80-74 with 5:37 left before the Heat began to make a push. James converted a three-point play and House nailed a 3-pointer to tie it with 4:20 left.
James’ 3-pointer at the 3:00 mark gave Miami its first lead of the quarter at 83-82 and House pushed it to three points with a jumper on the next possession. The Pistons would battle back, taking the lead at 87-86 when Daye hit another 3-pointer, but House drew the foul with 6.5 seconds left and James Jones blocked a shot at the end to seal it.
Ben Gordon scored 21 points and Daye added 19 for Detroit.
