Pavin Smith knocked in three runs and the Arizona Diamondbacks roughed up Dodgers rookie pitcher Michael Grove to complete a series win over Los Angeles with an 11-6 victory on Sunday in Phoenix.
Arizona won the final three games of the four-game series. The teams split a four-game set at Los Angeles a week ago.
Grove (0-1) allowed nine runs on 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings in his second start of the season.
The Dodgers made it a 3-3 game by scoring twice in the top of the third, but Arizona scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added three more in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Diamondbacks scored in each of the first five innings.
Josh Rojas collected three hits and scored twice for Arizona, which had 16 hits in the game. Smith, Jake McCarthy, Nick Ahmed, Jose Herrera and Geraldo Perdomo each added two hits for the Diamondbacks.
Smith, who was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Saturday, doubled home Rojas in the first inning, then hit a double that brought in Perdomo and Rojas in the fourth. Ahmed drove in two and also had two stolen bases.
Arizona starting pitcher Ryne Nelson (1-0) limited the Dodgers to three runs on four hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out three.
J.D. Martinez had two hits, two RBIs and two runs for Los Angeles, which also received two RBIs from Miguel Vargas. David Peralta and Trayce Thompson each drove in a run for the Dodgers.
Los Angeles catcher Austin Barnes was ejected by plate umpire Lance Barrett in the bottom of the fifth after Barrett called a pitch low. The two exchanged words, and Barnes was tossed before the next pitch.
The Diamondbacks outscored the Dodgers 29-17 while taking the final three games of the series.
Arizona opens a three-game series against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, the same night the Dodgers open a three-game visit against the rival San Francisco Giants.
