Trent Grisham hit an RBI double, Mike Clevinger tossed five scoreless innings and the San Diego Padres defeated the host Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 on Tuesday.
Robinson Cano added two hits for the Padres. Clevinger (1-0) gave up just one hit to go along with five strikeouts and no walks.
Taylor Rogers threw a scoreless ninth inning for his 14th save in 15 opportunities.
After winning three of four on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Phillies' offense struggled with a combined five hits. Nick Castellanos was the only player with two hits. Castellanos filled in at DH for Bryce Harper, who was held out of the lineup after receiving an injection in his right elbow before the game.
Phillies starter Zach Eflin (1-3) returned from the COVID list and tossed six strong innings. He allowed five hits and one run with five strikeouts and no walks. Things went south when reliever James Norwood allowed a pair of runs in a third of an inning.
The Padres managed only hit through the first four innings, a single by Jurickson Profar.
San Diego placed runners at first and third with one out in the fifth and Austin Nola responded with a fielder's choice and an RBI for a 1-0 lead. Grisham flied out to left to end the inning.
Eflin escaped further trouble when he pitched out of a jam with runners on first and third with one out in the sixth. Eric Hosmer broke his bat and lined out softly to second and Profar flied out to right.
The Padres went ahead 2-0 in the seventh when Cano singled to left and the ball went under Kyle Schwarber's glove and all the way to the wall. Wil Myers came around from first to score. Grisham then responded with an RBI double to right for a three-run lead.
Castellanos singled with out in the seventh and Jean Segura followed with a single to extend his hitting streak to 13 in a row. Odubel Herrera popped out and J.T. Realmuto grounded out to strand the runners.
