Atlanta left-hander Max Fried showed no ill effects from being hit by a line drive last week, pitching the Braves to a 5-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday in Phoenix.
Fried (5-2) was able to take his turn in the rotation, despite being struck on the left hand by a line drive against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. He scattered nine hits over five innings and struck out seven.
Four members of the Braves bullpen covered the final four innings, with Luke Jackson pitching the eighth and ninth to earn his fourth save. Jackson struck out the final two batters.
The Braves won the final three games of the four-game series and went 6-4 on their three-city road trip.
Zack Godley (1-3) returned to the starting rotation for Arizona after making two relief appearances. He went only two innings, allowing four hits and one run, with two strikeouts.
The Diamondbacks had a frustrating day at the plate. They had 14 hits but left 11 runners on base and were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
The Braves scored a run in the second inning on an opposite-field RBI single by Ender Inciarte. They added three more in the third, with two coming home on Johan Camargo's single and another on a run-scoring single from Tyler Flowers.
The Diamondbacks cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the fourth. Carson Kelly singled home the first run, and Adam Jones ripped a two-run homer, his eighth. Jones entered the game one shy of 900 RBIs for his career.
Atlanta added an insurance run in the eighth when Flowers roped a triple into the right-field corner that drove in Charlie Culberson.
The Braves were without first baseman Freddie Freeman, who has been playing through a head cold. The team also announced that pitcher Kevin Gausman, who beat the Diamondbacks on Saturday, would drop the appeal of his five-game suspension for throwing at Miami's Jose Urena.
