Twins 8, Red Sox 6: Chris Parmelee hit a walk-off two-run homer as Minnesota stunned visiting Boston.
Andre Miller (1-1) struck out the first two batters he faced in the ninth before Kurt Suzuki reached with a sharp single through the right side. Parmelee followed and belted an 0-1 fastball out to right-center for his first home run of the season.
Eduardo Nunez added a two-run blast and Brian Dozier doubled in a pair for the Twins, who made a winner out of Glen Perkins (1-0) in relief. David Ortiz went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs while Shane Victorino had three hits and drove in a run for the Red Sox.
Ortiz put Boston on top with a solo blast to right in the first but the Twins bounced right back with a five-run rally in the second as Nunez delivered a two-run homer to left, Dozier doubled in a pair and Joe Mauer delivered an RBI single. Ortiz led off the fourth and tightened it to 5-2 with another solo homer - a lined shot into the flower boxes above the wall in right-center.
Ortiz again cut the deficit to three runs with an RBI single in the sixth before the Red Sox rallied to tie it with three two-out runs in the seventh. Victorino and Ortiz each recorded an RBI single and Mike Napoli walked to load the bases before Jonny Gomes drew a walk to force in the tying run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Boston starter Jake Peavy was knocked around for six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings while Twins starter Ricky Nolasco left with the lead after yielding three runs in six frames. … Peavy and LHP Felix Doubront were flipped in the rotation so that Peavy could go again Sunday against the Detroit Tigers.
