Reds 6, Cubs 4 (11): Shin-Soo Choo delivered a tiebreaking two-run single in the 11th inning as visiting Cincinnati won in Chicago for the 14th time in 15 meetings.
The Reds loaded the bases on two walks and an error by Cubs third baseman Donnie Murphy before Choo lined a shot into the right-center field gap off Eduardo Sanchez (0-1).
J.J. Hoover (3-5) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings and Aroldis Chapman worked the bottom of the 11th for his 29th save in 33 opportunities. Cincinnati maintained its 5 1/2-game lead over Arizona in the battle for the National League’s second wild-card berth.
Brandon Phillips had a two-run single in the first inning before Chicago tied the game in the second on Nate Schierholtz’s two-run shot off Homer Bailey to snap a 33 2/3-inning home scoreless streak. The Reds pushed across two runs in the third but solo shots by Dioner Navarro in the fourth and Murphy in the seventh tied the score.
Bailey allowed four runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings, while Chicago’s Jeff Samardzija gave up four runs and six hits in six innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Bailey also allowed three homers on April 10 against St. Louis. … Murphy has four homers in eight games since joining the Cubs earlier this month. … Reds OF Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) wasn’t in the lineup one day after going 0-for-3 in his first appearance since being injured on Opening Day but walked as a pinch hitter in the 11th and scored on Choo's hit.
