Diamondbacks 12, Cubs 4: Paul Goldschmidt hit a tiebreaking grand slam in the eighth inning and visiting Arizona scored 11 times over the final three innings to snap Chicago's five-game winning streak.
Goldschmidt's first career slam - off reliever Carlos Marmol (2-3) - came one inning after Jason Kubel (four RBIs) delivered a three-run double as the Diamondbacks halted a modest two-game skid to push their lead to 2 1/2 games atop the National League West.
Ian Kennedy (3-3) retired 17 straight batters after giving up three first-inning runs and was charged with four runs on only three hits in seven innings. Gerardo Parra homered, doubled and drove in two runs and second baseman Willie Bloomquist had three hits in his season debut for Arizona.
Nate Schierholtz hit a tying homer in the seventh inning and had an RBI double in the first for the Cubs, who had amassed 36 runs during their winning streak. Starter Jeff Samardzija struck out 11 and gave up three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Samardzija exited after walking a pair of batters in the seventh and reliever James Russell served up Kubel's bases-clearing double. Kennedy immediately relinquished the lead when Schierholtz went deep leading off the bottom of the inning to tie it at 4-4.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Goldschmidt's blast was his 13th and ended an 11-game homerless drought. ... Cubs manager Dale Sveum was ejected in the second inning for arguing a call at first base. It was the second time he's been tossed this season. ... The Diamondbacks placed RHP Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled reliever Randall Delgado from Triple-A Reno.
