Padres 11, Reds 5: Yonder Alonso tied a San Diego franchise record with three doubles and Will Venable drove in four runs as the visiting Padres snapped Cincinnati's 10-game win streak.
Former Reds right-hander Edinson Volquez (7-7) labored through five innings to win in his return to Great American Ball Park. He allowed three runs in the first but settled down and made it through the minimum to earn the win, allowing five runs on six hits. He has won four straight decisions.
The Padres chased starter Mike Leake in a five-run second inning and broke it open with four more in the third, three of them coming on Venable's base-clearing triple into the gap in left-center. Carlos Quentin added his 10th home run - a solo shot - in the eighth for the Padres, who improved to 15-10 in July.
Leake (4-7) walked three in 1 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on five hits.
Drew Stubbs and Jay Bruce hit solo homers for the Reds, whose win streak ended two games shy of the franchise record of 12 set in 1939 and matched in 1957.
Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was ejected in the top of the third after arguing a ball called with San Diego's Chase Headley at the plate. Mesoraco then bumped home plate umpire Chad Fairchild.
