Reds 9, Rockies 7: Drew Stubbs homered and broke a 5-5 tie with an RBI single that highlighted a four-run fifth inning and Ryan Ludwick hit two of Cincinnati's five solo shots as the visiting Reds won their ninth straight game for their longest winning streak in 13 years.
Johnny Cueto (13-5) won his fourth straight start to tie for the National League lead in victories and Brandon Phillips capped the fifth inning with a two-run double as Cincinnati recorded its longest winning streak since taking 10 in a row in 1999.
Scott Rolen and Todd Frazier also homered for the Reds, who won for the 16th time in their last 18 games and maintained their two-game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central.
Carlos Gonzalez extended his home hitting streak to 27 games with two hits and three RBIs and Michael Cuddyer hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who lost their seventh consecutive home series (0-6-1) and fell to 20-31 at Coors Field.
Cueto, who entered with the best ERA in the majors at 2.23, survived a shaky first inning, when the Rockies took a 3-0 lead. He allowed five runs and 10 hits in six innings and yielded more than three runs for only the third time this season and first in 11 starts since a 6-3 loss to Colorado on May 25.
Rookie Christian Friedrich (5-8) fell to 1-7 in his last 10 outings. He allowed seven runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings as the Rockies lost for the 10th time in their last 13 games.
Ludwick’s second homer made it 9-7 in the eighth inning.
Aroldis Chapman worked around a hit batsman, a single and a wild pitch in the ninth inning before striking out pinch hitter Andrew Brown on a 100-mph fastball to earn his 21st save in 25 chances in his 15th straight scoreless appearance.
