Phillies 12, Reds 5: John Mayberry Jr., Ryan Howard and Erik Kratz homered among Philadelphia’s seven extra-base hits as the host Phillies beat Cincinnati for the seventh straight time.
Mayberry drove in three runs while Howard, Kratz, Chase Utley and Domonic Brown had two RBIs apiece for Philadelphia, which notched its 16th home win over Cincinnati in the last 20 tries.
Roy Halladay (7-7) lasted seven innings for his third August win, allowing five runs on 10 hits. Philadelphia has won three straight overall.
Jay Bruce went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs for the first-place Reds, who lost for the fifth time in their last 17 road games.
Cincinnati plated two in the first, highlighted by Bruce’s RBI double off the right-field wall. Howard cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning, stroking an RBI hit to center.
Howard’s third-inning solo shot tied it 2-2, and Kratz’s fourth-inning solo homer put the Phillies ahead. The Reds came right back with three in the fifth, but Philadelphia responded with four in the bottom half keyed by Brown’s two-run double.
That chased Mike Leake (5-8), and Philadelphia never trailed again.
