Diamondbacks 4, Phillies 2: Justin Upton hit his 100th career home run and Ian Kennedy won his fourth straight start as visiting Arizona posted its fourth straight victory.
Jason Kubel also homered and Chris Johnson kept up his hot hitting with an RBI single for the Diamondbacks, who have won 11 of 14 - including the first four contests of a 10-game road trip.
Kennedy (10-8) labored through six innings, allowing two runs and seven hits for his fourth straight quality start. The Diamondbacks staked him to a 3-0 lead, opening the scoring on Upton's blast in the second and adding two runs in the fourth on Paul Goldschmidt's sacrifice fly and Johnson's run-scoring hit.
Kyle Kendrick (4-9) took the loss, allowing three runs - two earned - on five hits over four innings. Kendrick took the place of scheduled starter Joe Blanton, who was claimed off waivers and traded to the Dodgers earlier in the day.
The Phillies pulled within 3-2 on Chase Utley's sixth home run in the fourth and Nate Schierholtz's sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Kubel's team-leading 23rd homer into the second deck in right provided an insurance run for J.J. Putz, who retired the side on seven pitches in the ninth for his 20th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Upton and his brother, B.J., both hit their 100th career home run Friday, the first brother duo to do so on the same day in major-league history, according to Elias Sports Bureau. They are the sixth brother pair with 100 homers apiece. … Arizona C Miguel Montero has reached base in 11 straight games, going 15-for-34 with nine walks, four homers and 12 RBIs during that stretch. … Phillies 1B Ryan Howard went 0-for-4 and has one hit in his last 19 at-bats. … Johnson has at least one RBI in each of his first four games with Arizona since being acquired from Houston before the non-waiver trade deadline. He has two home runs and eight RBIs for Arizona.
