Braves 6, Padres 0: Tim Hudson pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings and Dan Uggla and Martin Prado homered as host Atlanta snapped a two-game losing streak.
The Braves had lost consecutive games for the first time since July 22-23, but improved to 16-4 in games started by Hudson this season. Hudson (12-4) surrendered just two hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Uggla hit his 14th homer of the season leading off the fifth, a solo shot to left off San Diego starter Clayton Richard (9-12). Prado added his sixth of the season with two outs the seventh, giving the Braves a 6-0 advantage.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Michael Bourn hit a leadoff triple to right-center field. One out later, Freddie Freeman drove home Bourn on a groundout to first.
After Uggla hit just his third homer since June 10, Atlanta pushed its lead to 3-0 in the sixth on Chipper Jones’ single to center, scoring Prado.
Richard allowed nine hits and five runs in 6 1/3 innings, striking out one.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hudson improved to 5-0 in his past eight starts dating to July 6. … San Diego recalled P Tom Layne from Double-A San Antonio. Layne made his major-league debut in the eighth and struck out the side. … Atlanta RF Jason Heyward, who had played every inning since June 13, did not start but came in for defense in the seventh. … Jones finished 2-for-4 and is two hits shy of 2,700 for his career. ... Atlanta improved to 25-10 since July 4. ... The Padres are 24-16 since June 29.
