Braves 2, Phillies 1: Mike Minor pitched his best game of the season, allowing four hits in eight innings as host Atlanta won its fourth in a row.
Minor (6-7) gave up one run with no walks and nine strikeouts. The 24-year-old left-hander retired the final 13 hitters he faced, throwing 72 of his 103 pitches for strikes.
Atlanta made single runs in the first and third innings stand up against the Phillies, who wasted a strong performance from right-hander Joe Blanton. Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 30th save.
Blanton (8-9) went seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs with one walk and seven strikeouts.
The Braves broke through in the bottom of the first. After Martin Prado and Jason Heyward singled with one out, Chipper Jones scored Prado with a sacrifice fly to center to put Atlanta ahead 1-0.
Atlanta moved ahead 2-0 in the third. Michael Bourn singled to left leading off the inning. With one out, Heyward’s infield single off Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley scored Bourn.
Prado and Heyward each finished with two hits.
Utley brought the Phillies within 2-1 in the fourth, blasting his fifth homer of the season to center.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Minor matched the longest outing of his career, set April 19 at Arizona. … Philadelphia CF Shane Victorino’s streak of 273 consecutive errorless games ended in the first inning. … Philadelphia C Carlos Ruiz did not start because of pain in his left foot, lining out as a pinch-hitter in the eighth. The Phillies are optimistic Ruiz can start Sunday. … Thirteen of the past 17 homers Minor has allowed have been solo shots.
