Yorvit Torrealba had two run-scoring singles and Clayton Richard pitched seven strong innings to help the San Diego Padres beat the host San Francisco Giants 5-2 on Wednesday night.
San Diego, which has a National League-best 21-12 record, has defeated San Francisco five consecutive times this season.
The Padres took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Will Venable walked, stole second and scored on a double by Jerry Hairston Jr.
San Diego boosted the lead to two in the sixth when Torrealba singled in Scott Hairston. A seventh-inning sacrifice fly by Scott Hairston made it 5-2.
Richard (2-2) gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings. Mike Adams pitched a perfect eighth and Heath Bell worked the ninth for his 10th save of the season.
Torrealba also singled in a run during San Diego’s two-run second inning. The other run scored on a sacrifice fly by Richard.
San Francisco tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on a run-scoring single by Andres Torres and a balk by Richard that allowed Nate Schierholtz to score.
San Francisco starter Matt Cain (2-2) allowed five runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings.
