Michael Bourn hit a tiebreaking two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning as the Houston Astros defeated the host San Diego Padres 6-3 on Thursday night.
Bourn’s triple followed back-to-back two-out walks by Padres reliever Luke Gregerson (2-3). Bourn scored when Jeff Keppinger followed with a single to right field.
Matt Lindstrom pitched a perfect ninth for his 19th save.
Houston built an early 3-0 lead on Jason Michaels’ homer and Keppinger’s two-run single in the second inning.
Chris Denorfia singled in San Diego’s first run in the fifth. The Padres scored twice in the seventh on Oscar Salazar’s sacrifice fly and David Eckstein’s single to center.
Brian Moehler gave up one runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings for Houston. Chris Sampson (1-0) recorded the victory with a scoreless ninth.
San Diego starter Jon Garland gave up three runs and six hits in five innings.
Chase Headley went 3-for-4 for the Padres.
