Hunter Pence singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Houston Astros edged the San Diego Padres, 4-3, on Sunday.
Jeff Keppinger led off the 11th and reached on an error by third baseman Chase Headley. Berkman followed with a single and moved to second on a fielder's choice before coming in to score the walk-off run on Pence's single.
The Astros tied it up in the bottom of the ninth without the benefit of a hit when Carlos Lee reached on an error by shortstop Jerry Hairston Jr and moved to second. Kaz Matsui came on as a pinch runner and moved to third on a groundout. He came in to score on Pedro Feliz's sacrifice fly.
Roy Oswalt was the tough-luck starter for Houston, allowing three runs and six hits in eight innings while walking one and striking out nine. Oswalt had retired 12 straight before running into trouble in the fifth when Matt Stairs led off with a single and Nick Hundley worked a walk.
Oswalt retired the next two but allowed a two-run double to opposing starter Tim Stauffer and and RBI single to Gwynn.
Stauffer surrendered six hits and did not issue a walk while striking out one. The right-hander lowered his ERA to a miniscule 0.39.
Pence and Lee each hit solo homers for the Astros, who won for just the second time in the last 13 games.
