A night ago, it was the two-time reigning Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum preying on the Astros lineup. Tonight, it was Barry Zito returning to Cy Young form as the Giants took their second straight game against the Astros by a score of 3-0.
Zito, beginning his fourth year of a seven year contract worth $126, bedeviled a hapless Astros team. He pitched six strong shutout innings while surrendering only three hits and recording five strikeouts.
Zito was matched by Astros' starter Wandy Rodriguez through five innings until the Giants' offense got started. The Giants capitalized on two walks to lead off the top of the sixth inning. Giants' newcomer Aubrey Huff came through with a base hit to get the Giants on the board.
The Houston lineup has only managed to score two runs against San Francisco, and Giants’ starters have yet to surrender a run.
Brian Wilson recorded his second save of the young season with a perfect ninth inning.
