Ubaldo Jimenez struck out a career-high 13 batters and remained unbeaten on the season in leading the Colorado Rockies to a 5-2 victory over the host San Diego Padres on Monday night.
Jimenez gave up one run and four hits in seven innings and also delivered a run-scoring single. His earned-run average actually rose to 0.87 in the process.
Jimenez, who was named National League Pitcher of the Month earlier Monday, improved to 6-0. Joe Beimel pitched the eighth and Rafael Betancourt worked the ninth.
Jimenez’s single came in the seventh to give the Rockies a 3-1 lead. Carlos Gonzalez gave Colorado insurance with a two-run single in the eighth.
Clint Barmes doubled in two runs in the second inning for the Rockies' 2-0 advantage. San Diego’s runs came on Yorvit Torrealba’s fourth-inning double and Matt Stairs’ ninth-inning single.
Kevin Correia (4-2) gave up three runs and four hits in six innings for the Padres.
