Ike Davis had two hits and an RBI in his major-league debut to lead the New York Mets to a 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Monday.
The 23-year-old Davis, recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Buffalo, smacked a single in his first at-bat and later delivered a run-scoring hit in the deciding five-run seventh inning for the Mets.
Fernando Nieve (1-1) picked up the win, striking out a career-high seven batters in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed one unearned run on eight hits.
Angel Pagan broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run homer off James Russell (0-1) and Jason Bay also drove in a run with a double in the seventh inning for the 4-1 advantage.
Chicago starter Randy Wells pitched six strong innings, allowing a run on six hits before turning it over to the bullpen.
Marlon Byrd had three hits and drove in the Cubs' lone run with an infield single in the sixth.
