Gerardo Parra hit a two-run inside-the-park homer in the eighth inning to lift the host Arizona Diamondbacks to an unlikely 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.
Arizona trailed 1-0 with one out in the eighth when Parra drilled the ball into the right-center field gap off Peter Moylan (2-1). Braves center fielder Nate McLouth and right fielder Jason Heyward collided and the ball rolled away as McLouth lay prone on the turf.
Mark Reynolds easily scored from second base and Parra circled the bases for his first homer of the season. McLouth had to leave the game as a result.
Atlanta had taken the lead in the top of the eighth on back-to-back doubles by Heyward and Brian McCann.
Aaron Heilman (2-1) got the win and Chad Qualls pitched the ninth to pick up his 12th save.
Starting pitchers Kenshin Kawakami of the Braves and Ian Kennedy of the Diamondbacks both left without allowing a run.
Kawakami matched his career-high with eight strikeouts and scattered four hits and four walks in six innings.
Kennedy gave up three hits and five walks in seven innings. He struck out six.
