Andre Ethier’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a 6-5 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday.
Ethier, who lead the majors with six walk-off hits last season, belted a pitch from Blaine Boyer (1-1) deep to center field to score Blake DeWitt.
Jonathan Broxton (1-0) picked up the win with a perfect frame in the top of the inning.
Trailing by two runs entering the ninth, the Dodgers got one back on Manny Ramirez’s single and two batters later tied things at 5-5 when shortstop Stephen Drew fielded Casey Blake’s slow roller and promptly tossed what would have been the final out into the stands.
Justin Upton’s homer in the eighth and a fielding error that allowed Connor Jackson to score in the ninth gave the Diamondbacks a 5-3 cushion.
Matt Kemp homered for the third straight game for the Dodgers with a two-run shot in the seventh that evened things at 3-3.
Arizona starter Dan Haren took the no-decision, allowing two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
