Kevin Kouzmanoff ripped a three-run double to cap a five-run eighth inning as the visiting Oakland Athletics rallied for a 7-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.
Gabe Gross hit a two-run home run and Ryan Sweeney and Jake Fox added RBI singles as the A’s took two of three from the Orioles.
Michael Wuertz (2-0) went two-thirds of an inning and Andrew Bailey notched his ninth save for Oakland, which arrived in Baltimore with a major league-low five road wins and departed by winning just their second series away from home this season.
The Orioles built a 5-2 lead through seven innings, but starter Brad Bergesen and their beleaguered bullpen couldn't make it stand up.
Adam Rosales and Mark Ellis opened the eighth with back-to-back singles to end Bergesen's night. After Jason Berken retired the only batter he faced, Mark Hendrickson (1-3) was touched for three singles to cut the deficit to 5-4 and load the bases.
Cla Meredith came on to face Kouzmanoff, who cleared the bases for a 7-5 Oakland lead. Meredith had not pitched since surrendering a walk-off home run in Sunday’s loss at Washington.
