The woeful Baltimore Orioles entered their three-game set with the Boston Red Sox without winning a series this season.
Not only did the Orioles win it, they swept the Red Sox, finishing it off with a 3-2 win in 10 innings at Camden Yards.
Ty Wigginton doubled home Nick Markakis with nobody out against Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon, who walked Markakis to start the inning and pushed him to second on an errant pick-off attempt to fall to 1-2.
The Orioles have won three in a row for the first time all year and have won five out of seven to the begin the climb out of a 2-16 start.
Matt Albers earned the win after a scoreless 10th inning.
The Orioles grabbed the early lead on a Nolan Reimold RBI groundout and a Rhyne Hughes RBI double in the fourth.
Boston came back to tie it with solo home runs by Jason Varitek in the fifth and J.D. Drew in the seventh.
The starters for both squads were on their game, but didn’t figure in the decision.
Boston’s Josh Beckett went seven innings, gave up six hits, two earned with six strikeouts and no walks.
Baltimore’s Kevin Millwood remains winless at 0-3 despite pitching well, this time going eight innings while allowing five hits, two earned with four strikeouts and four walks.
