Dean Kremer tossed six solid innings on Tuesday night for the visiting Baltimore Orioles, who held on for a 9-5 win over the New York Mets in the middle game of a three-game interleague series.
Former Mets catcher James McCann went 1-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs for the Orioles, who improved to 9-9 this month. Anthony Santander hit a two-run homer in the first, Ramon Urias had a run-scoring infield single in the fourth and Eloy Jimenez added an RBI double in the fifth before Gunnar Henderson delivered an RBI single in the ninth.
Colton Cowser had two hits and scored twice while Austin Slater singled twice for Baltimore. Cedric Mullins was 2-for-2 with a run scored off the bench.
Kremer (6-9) allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Cionel Perez threw a perfect seventh before the Mets scored four times in the eighth against Burch Smith, who gave up an RBI double to Brandon Nimmo and a three-run homer to J.D. Martinez.
Mark Vientos had an RBI double in the third for the Mets, who have lost seven of their past 11. Francisco Lindor doubled twice for New York.
Jose Quintana (6-9) took the loss for the Mets after giving up seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings.
Quintana walked Henderson with two outs in the first before Santander homered seven pitches later. The Orioles extended their lead to 3-0 in the second when Cowser led off with a triple and scored on McCann's sacrifice fly.
Kremer retired the first six batters he faced before walking Francisco Alvarez and Jeff McNeil to open the third. Two outs later, Alvarez scored on Vientos' double to left.
The Orioles began adding much-needed insurance in the fourth, when Cowser doubled and scored on Urias' single before McCann's two-run homer. Henderson walked again with one out in the fifth and scored on Jimenez's two-out double.
